Halloween Delights

Halloween Delights

Halloween Cake Bites

I found this recipe in the 'Better Homes and Gardens' there October 2011 Issue. There quite easy and fun to do. I'm sure if you had kids they would love to help do these.

Ingredients:

- Box of your any flavor cake mix
- 16oz of Frosting
- 2lbs of Vanilla Candy Coating (you can find this in the wedding section of
    Wal- mart)
- Mini and regular size Chocolate Chips
- Candy Corn
- Twizzlers Pull 'n' Peel
- Hershey's Kiss
- Tootsie Rolls
- Sucker Sticks

Make the cake mix according to the box let it cool for about 30 minutes to an hour. Take the cake out of the pan and crumble in a bowl. Add the 16oz of frosting and mix together. Use a low speed on your mixer so you don't make a mess :).

Roll into 1 to 1 1/2 balls. I tried an ice cream scoop but in was easier to just use my hands.  Melt about an ounce of the vanilla candy in the microwave.  Dip one end of the sucker stick in the candy coating then carefully put the stick into the cake bites. Repeat until done and freeze for and hour.

Melt the rest of the vanilla candy in the microwave and dip the cake bites in the candy.

Now its time to decorate. Work fast so the candy doesn't harden. I've created a ghost, bear and spider
With the Ghost use the mini and regular size chocolate chips.
With the Spider use the mini chocolate chips for eyes, twizzlers for legs and eyebrows, and candy corn for fangs
BHG had a Witch I struggled with this creations so I didn't show it.  They suggest using the mini chocolate chips for eyes and nose. Regular size chocolate chips for mouth, and twizzlers for hair. Then flatten and roll out the tootsie roll for the bottom of the hat and put the kiss on top of the tootsie roll to finish it off.

Once you did all the decorating you and ready to dig into these yummy treats. If you don't eat them all at once its best to keep them in the fridge so they don't melt.

Enjoy, and again the idea was found in 'Better Homes and Gardens' October 2011 Issue.

Rocking Chair Project

The Rocking Chair Project

I the idea from watching a number of shows that talk about restoring things and giving them a second chance. So I starting combing yard sales and thrift stores for a project, and I found this Rocking Chair.

Found the Rocking Chair at a yard sale for $20

When I got the chair home I had a number of ideas for it.  Paint in a bright color, put some stencils on it, but Tim talked me into just repainting it white. But before I could repaint the chair i need to sand it down to get rid of the stains and black marks on it.

After sanding it down the best I could (thanks Tim for letting me sand it in your warehouse in Mesquite, so I didn't have to do it in the heat of St. George).  It was paint time! I used a horse hair paint brush, which Tim says give the chair character :). After a couple afternoons of painting I finished my first restoration project, and I'm rather happy with it. I've thought of selling it but, family members and Tim talking me into keeping it just incase we decided to grow-up and have kids :).
